Insomnia creates the longest nite of my life
Insomnia can bother everyone but the baby boomer characteristic is at mid-life. It really is horrible for an active baby boomer to wake up after couple of hours sleeping and find you are unable to return to dreamland.

I've also read the book by Eric Braverman called the "Edge Effect" and found that Gaba helps to calm the excitability of the brain. The cause for mid-life insomnia can be a depletion of vitamins, minerals or hormones. I guess that's why it hits us active baby boomers. Once the hormones start to go, it seems a fast ride down from there.

I personally have found the natural items to work the best. I've had to reduce starch intake, use the bio-identical hormone cream to get balance back up and tried this calming, stress relieving supplements and now I get great sleep. All with no nasty side effects. Some active baby boomers have only needed the supplements to bring back the great sleep they know and love.
I have also improved my need of better sleep by replacing my mattress. You can either purchase expensive or just put a great topper on your current bed.
There are many books written on insomnia and we can always look to meditation, yoga or even wonderfully soothing music to lull us to sleep. Sometimes just knowing we are not the only one experiencing sleepless nights puts us on the right track of finding out what can or will work for us.
